Save Your DNA: Become Your Own Antioxidant Donor

August 31, 2017

What is your earliest memory of being stressed out? I apparently was born stressed out...literally. My heart rate began to race and my mom was rushed to surgery for a c-section to get me out before I died. Not much has changed since I was born and chances are, you are likely coping with stress too. Our circumstances can lead to emotional stress. If you are anything like me, you've tried everything to manage or eliminate this stress through deep breathing, exercise, hot tea, soothing baths, essential oils, vacation time, retail therapy (haha) and if all else fails, counseling!

Emotional stress is inevitable, but so is oxidative stress. The difference is you probably didn't know about oxidative stress, so you probably are not doing everything you can to manage or eliminate this stress. Oxidation occurs when we breath in and breakdown oxygen (an obvious necessity that happens to have natural consequences).

Oxidative stress occurs when there are more free radicals (oxygen by-products) than antioxidants in your body leading to damaged DNA, genes and mitochondria (think rust on a car). Antioxidants are tasked with detoxing your body from these free radicals. This imbalance typically doesn't start until we reach our 20s because babies are born with a protein called NRF2 that is fully activated and functional. Eventually, free radicals outnumber our antioxidants because we spend a lot of time breathing in oxygen over the years! Despite an antioxidant rich diet, as we age we accumulate free radicals and our NRF2 becomes overwhelmed and under-productive.

What happens if you take our specially formulated, all natural, food based NRF2 activator? Oxidative stress is immediately reduced by 40% in just 30 days according to research.

A couple weeks ago, we talked about when NRF2 is activated it produces 3 antioxidant enzymes known as superoxide dismutase, catalase and glutathione. Here is why these 3 enzymes are important to make in your body rather than simply eating them...

Superoxide Dismutase (SOD)

Because SOD is deactivated by acids in your gastrointestinal tract, taking a pure SOD supplement via consumption is quite useless. With a specially formulated supplement that activates NRF2 upon digestion, SOD is created naturally, rather than taken as a supplement.

Benefits of Superoxide Dismutase

  • Powerful naturally occurring antioxidant

  • Found inside and outside of your cells

  • Reduces oxidative stress

  • Reduces free radicals

  • Reduces inflammation

  • Reduces pain associated with inflammation

  • Promotes body's own defense system

  • Detoxes harmful substances found in the body

  • Neutralizes harmful effects of oxygen

  • Responsible for converting superoxide radicals down to oxygen and hydrogen peroxide, which are further converted down by catalase and glutathione.

“Americans spend billions of dollars each year on pharmaceuticals designed to lower cholesterol and thus avert atherosclerosis. However, one research team recently pointed out that low SOD levels may play a greater role than elevated cholesterol in the development of this life-threatening condition. According to the researchers, diminished levels of SOD and total antioxidant status may well play a larger role in the development of atherosclerosis than isolated elevations in total cholesterol or triglyceride levels.” (Lifeextention.com)

Benefits of Catalase

  • Breaks down harmful hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen

  • Prevents carbon dioxide from accumulating in your blood

  • Can use hydrogen peroxide to destroy toxins in your body, such as alcohol.

According to Sciencing.com, “Recent scientific studies indicate that low catalase levels could be a factor in the graying process of human hair. The hydrogen peroxide accumulation bleaches the hair inside out.”

Glutathione (GSH)

Known as the mother of all antioxidants, glutathione has been considered a predictor of life expectancy. Our bodies average 10,000 milligrams of circulated glutathione daily. A typical healthy diet usually takes in about 100 milligrams of glutathione per day leaving the remaining 9,900 milligrams to be produced by our body and proteins like NRF2.

Benefits of Glutathione

  • Reduces oxidative stress

  • Removes oxygen radicals that would otherwise damage cells and DNA.

  • Reduces inflammation

  • Contributes to anti-aging

  • May prevent cognitive decline, depression and neurodegeneration.

  • Boosts immunity

  • May help with a wide range of oxidative stress related diseases, such as irritable bowel syndrome, autism, diabetes, heart, kidney, liver and more.
